need help with the Canon Optura 300...

I have one , and I like to use it with editing on my computer. it records to the mini DV tapes and to a memory card, but the tape gets better picture. I was wodering if anyone knows how to record on the tape, but edit it on the computer. I have a PC if that hels. Thanks.

By the looks of things your camera has DV In and Out. This means you can capture from the tape in the camera onto a computer hard disk and then record back onto the tape from the computer. You'll need to buy a firwire cable to connect the camera to the PC, assuming it has a firewire port. If it doesn't you can by a cheap PCI firewire card for around $10. When the camera is connected to your PC you then need to capture the footage to your hard drive from the MiniDV tape. Most editing programs allow you to do this so it would probably be best reading the help files of your chosen piece of software.

If you are on Windows XP you should have Movie Maker already installed in which case you should be able to get started capturing and at least playing around with your footage.

MovieMaker or IMovie on the MAC are both good programs to learn on if you don't have much knowledge of editing timelines etc.

When you get a little better with the software you might want to look for a free editing program which offers a few more advanced options.

I have just covered it very basically here, if I remember correctly there is some more info on the eXposure website about doing this.
